Raj Sinhal  MBA, CPFA

Raj has spent 20 years working alongside ambitious entrepreneurial owner managers to help them achieve their business goals, working at Board level to drive value, and to ensure the returns from any planned transaction were maximised. In the past 14 years, he has fulfilled this role as a Corporate Finance Partner/Director completing transactions both in the UK and overseas.

A qualified accountant, Raj was awarded an MBA in 1994. He started his career in the public sector, moving to Price Waterhouse in 1990 and joined BDO Stoy Hayward in 1997 as Director/Partner.  It was here where Raj developed a real focus on entrepreneurial growth businesses and the factors that contribute to successful growth.

In 1998, he headed the Centre for Growing Business at Nottingham Business School, a national initiative linking academic and practical experience in supporting business owners. This led to Raj authoring a book, Business Grow-How and creating a growth tool-kit for entrepreneurs. In addition, in 2004-2007, Raj spearheaded Tenon Academy, a leading edge development programme for the senior managers of the firm.

Raj has held national roles in RSM Tenon Corporate Finance, as well as being Chairman of the European Board of its International Association between 2007 and 2009, and was responsible for development of its international M&A activity during this time. Most recently, Raj headed up Accelerated Mergers and Acquisitions, working closely with the Corporate Recovery business and assisting businesses in turnaround or distress, where a quick process was required to realise maximum value for stakeholders.

Working with the business owner and entrepreneur, Raj has assisted in achieving their growth, succession and exit ambitions. He has completed disposal, buyout, and fundraising transactions across a range of sectors including, technology, food, support services and manufacturing, with transaction values ranging from below £1m to £50m and above.

Outside work, Raj likes to follow football and motor racing, travels extensively and tries to keep fit.

James Heywood ACA

James qualified first time as a prize winning Chartered Accountant and began working on corporate finance transactions in 2003. He joined RSM Tenon Plc. the specialist adviser to entrepreneurs and has worked on over 50 transactions. He has completed a wide range of transactions including fundraising, management buyouts and disposals across a range of sectors including technology, professional services and leisure typically ranging in value from £1 to £30m. He holds the Corporate Finance Diploma qualification from the ICAEW.

James has built numerous financial models for clients which model the key business drivers and visually illustrate the effects of business changes on financial performance. These business models have clear assumptions pages which can be altered by clients to review different scenarios and have been used to demonstrate the viability of acquisitions, restructuring, buy-outs, the benefits of growth capital on businesses and as a change management tool.

James really enjoys working with clients who are seeking to grow their businesses and eventually sell. He likes to see the businesses evolve and develop along this journey and the entrepreneur eventually realise their hard work and ideas in a transaction which de-risks their future.

He also has extensive experience in business valuations, strategic option review and the preparation of “dashboards” to provide key information at board level.

Prior to his accountancy career James trained and worked as a teacher and enjoyed a number of years as a Head of Geography. He is now a governor and Chair of the Finance Committee of a local independent School. He continues to use his teaching skills to work with, enthuse and mentor clients, particularly bringing on the skills and outputs of the finance team. James is married with four children and when time allows enjoys playing the occasionally round of golf and other sports. He enjoys watching rugby and cricket.

Richard Fifield FCA                

Richard has spent his career helping entrepreneurs build great businesses.  He has advised and inspired hundreds of businesses to improve performance and achieve goals.  He has always recognised that thinking and acting “innovatively” in close partnership with the client is the key to entrepreneurial growth.  His passion is to really understand the “difference that makes the difference” in successful entrepreneurs and codifying this difference and sharing this with others.

Prior to starting Comentorise, Richard was Head of Outsourcing at RSM Tenon and a Director of Corporate Finance. He had previously spent many years working as a Corporate Finance Partner acting mainly as a lead advisor but also providing due diligence services, much of which was on behalf of VCs or VC backed businesses.  He also has been a Client Services Director, managing the financial affairs of a large and diverse portfolio of entrepreneurial and international businesses.

Richard has held many NED positions including listed companies (where he has been Chair of the Audit Committee and member of the Remuneration Committee); a Regional Development Agency and an international accounting association (which gave him the opportunity to build extensive international contacts).

He graduated in Geography, qualified first time as a Chartered Accountant (ACA), spent time in the Big 4 and became an FCA in 1998.  His is particularly interested in coaching and mentoring and is executive coach trained, a certified practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and is trained in timeline therapy and hypnotherapy.

Richard loves working with clients that really can and do add significant value to their clients.  He does however have a rule that however creative and fun his clients may be, they must be well led and master strategy, be able to manage talent, understand the importance of timely management information and pay the necessary attention to risk and control processes... and above all be able to execute on sensible advice.

He has particular interest and experience in the creative, innovations, TMT and professional services sectors.  His other passions are attempting to play guitar and mountain biking.
